BANNON Family History
This interesting surname, with variant spellings O'Bannan, (O')Bynnan, (O')Banane, Banan etc., is an Anglicized form of the Old Gaelic O Banain. The Gaelic prefix "O" indicates "male descendant of", plus the personal byname "Banain", a diminutive of "ban" white or fair. Three distinct septs of O'Banain existed in medieval Ireland, the principal branch residing at Leim Ui Bhanain, now Leap Castle, in the barony of Clonlisk i.e. the southern tip of County Offaly. In Petty's "census" of 1659 the name Bannon is numerous in that barony, and also in Lower Ormond, County Tipperary. The surname is also widespread in County Fermanagh where it is recorded from the mid 12th Century...Select Audience

Would like to chat with Fred as my Bannon relatives have "Barnes" as their middle names, many times in the family. Usually this happens when the wife uses her maiden surname as a middle name for their children when born

Looking for info on my Bannon family who immigrated to Canada in 1819, from King's County. John Bannon, was a grandmaster in the Orange Society. Along with his wife, Jane, nee Whitten/Whitton, escaped to Canada as there were numerous attempts to kill John. Along with their children, they sailed to Canada, changing their surname to "Beynon" instead, to help prevent being followed by his attackers.

Hello
I'm trying to find details on Christopher George Bannon/Banon, born in Westmeath about 1816. His parents could be Thomas Bannon c1772-c1856 and Mary Ann Davis.
He married Mary Ann Frances McCarthy in Skull, Cork on 18th May 1848 and had a daughter, Fanny in 1849. Christopher appears to have arrived in Port Philip, (Melbourne) Australia in 1852.
